Meeting his parents

So you've met Mr. Right, and everything is going just fine with you two. There is just one thing, his parents. Not that they are bad or anything of the kind, they just don't like you and are not shy about it. And it wouldn't be so depressing if his Mom didn't call your honey every single day sobbing that you are not the one for him. This is getting on your nerves and you are afraid that he will listen to her someday. Looks rather devastating? Well, there is a certain strategy how to make them like you at first sight.

Step 1: Get where they're coming from. Most often we behave unnaturally with a boy's parents simply because of fear. His mom may feel that she's being replaced and may not be very polite with a future daughter-in-law. A girl will anyway think that something is particularly wrong with her, her lifestyle, background, religion or education. Your values and religion may conflict with their own. Still, if you are not going to turn a Muslim into a Catholic, it's not going to hurt anyone. Advice here is – relax. Why shouldn't his parents like you? You are worth his son and he knows it, so just be yourself. All in all, if they see that you both really love each other, they will soon calm down.

Step 2: Don't Try to Be Best Friends. You don't have to make friends with his parents; you just have to get along with them. Remember that proverb – When in Rome, do as the Romans do. Don't judge them or make them agree with you on any matter, they can be just different. And even if his Mom is so cool that you can invite her to your bachelor's party, you'd better don't, just to be safe.
